Howard Carpendale
Howard Carpendale is a German-South African pop singer and composer who became one of the most successful artists in German-speaking countries in the 1970s and 1980s. Born on January 14, 1946 in Durban, South Africa, he moved to Germany in the late 1960s, where he began his music career.
Carpendale rose to fame with his sensitive hits and ballads. His first big hit was a cover version of "Das schöne Mädchen von Seite 1" (1969), which put him in the charts. His best known songs include hits such as "Hello Again" (1984), "Ti amo" (1977), "Deine Spuren im Sand" (1975) and "Nachts, wenn alles schläft" (1979). These songs became classics of German pop music and cemented his status as one of the most popular singers of his time.
In the course of his career, Howard Carpendale released over 30 studio albums and sold millions of records. He has been honored for his musical successes with numerous awards, including gold and platinum records. He has also received several Echo awards, the most important German music prize, including for his life's work.
Despite his retirement from the stage in 2003, Carpendale successfully returned to the music business in 2007 and continues to release albums that are enthusiastically received by his loyal fans. His songs, which often deal with love, longing and emotional moments, have reached a large audience for decades and make him an icon of German-language pop music.
Numerous photos suggest that Howard Carpendale is left-handed. For one thing, he signs his autographs with his left hand, very often holds the microphone in his left hand during performances and there are photos of him eating with his left hand.
