Marie Bäumer

Marie Bäumer (born 7 May 1969) is a German stage, film, and television actress known for her versatility and precise character work. She has appeared in over forty film and TV productions and has received numerous awards, including the German Film Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Romy Schneider in 3 Days in Quiberon.

Marie Bäumer was born in Düsseldorf and raised in Hamburg. She first attended Gymnasium Blankenese and later a Waldorf school, which she left before graduation. From 1992 onward, she trained in acting at the Scuola Teatro Dimitri in Verscio and Studio 033 in Hamburg. She continued her formal studies at the University of Music and Theatre in Hamburg, where she studied under Jutta Hoffmann, among others.

Her breakout came with the comedy Männerpension (directed by Detlev Buck). For her performance in Oskar Roehler’s Der alte Affe Angst, she received the Bavarian Film Award and the German Film Critics’ Award. In 3 Days in Quiberon, she portrayed Romy Schneider, earning the German Film Award and a nomination for the European Film Award in 2018. She was also honored with the Grimme Prize (for Im Angesicht des Verbrechens) and was made a Chevalier of the French Order of Arts and Letters. On stage, she has appeared at the Salzburg Festival and directed her own theater works.

Marie Bäumer lives with her son in southern France near Avignon. She regularly teaches acting courses and workshops, particularly at drama schools and the Film Academy Baden-Württemberg, and continues to engage in artistic projects where she directs or contributes creatively.
